A 2009 Film You May Have Missed: Signatures
Sweetgrass Productions is a Colorado-based film company rooted in winter backcountry and mountain culture. Signatures is about taking what the seasons give you; it captures what skiing is all about. Japanese photographer Yoichi Watanabe explains, “As a photographer, the change in season brings a change of subject. I have to be ahead of this change in nature, like I have to be thinking about flowers before they actually bloom in order to capture what really goes on. I can say the same about the snow as well.” Nearly all the footage was shot in Japan, it is rare to find a ski film shot in exclusively one location anymore.
The trailer is below and you can purchase the film here. The song in the trailer is by Bon Iver.
